Cit/y Engineer Fellowes brought down a list of lanes and streets which should be attended to this year. There are a total of. thirty-eight streets badly in need of repair. To resurface these would cost $31,200 and to replace plank roads by rocking and grading would cost $S0,<ilS. There are also a large number of boulevards 'in need ,of fixing to do which the engineer estimated that it would cost at least ■$50,000. . A complete list of streets mentioned in the report of Mr. Fellowes is on file at the Record o(T:ce. Mr. Fellowes also reporf.od that plans are being completed for the sewer at English Bay and recommended that tenders should be called immediately for 1100 feet of 72-inch reinforced concreto pipe. VANCOUVER—A request from the local Carpenters' Union addressed to the city council some time ago, and requesting the council to use its good offices towards securing better working conditions for the carpenters and tkc sanction of the contractors for the wage, schedule proposed by the union, was dealt with; by the civic employment and industries committee at' its meeting this week. It was pointed out by several of the aldermen who are in close touch with contracting, affairs, that as far as the wage schedule is concerned the city is complying with the requirements of the schedule and will be quite willing to continue to do so. But as far as the council using its influence with the contractors is concerned that was a matter in which the city had no jurisdiction and tho union will be so informed. Canadian AHis-Chalmers Ltd.
