Cutting Rails��������� Switch for the smelter.  A new switch is being built on the  C.P.R. m**in line between the rock cut  and trestle No.91 A.  Thf. filling for this switch was done  when the cut was made, and the new  work .consist?*'of unclalastiiig the old  track, drawing out ev?ry other tie to  start the .switch. The rail on the near  side is now taken up to pi nee the' frog,  and the work of rail fitting begins.  Measuring the lengths required, they  wrere cut about % inch deep all the  way around, they were then lifted xijiji  high as arms could reach anddipped to  brake off. The ends.are then fitted together but not boltedj alt-fhis rou)jrfe#tt&'  ting process leaves no bolt holes. The  track is then gaged and the rails firmly spiked down. The rails at the head  of the switch are then cut; afld ^the  spikes above the.cut, are thenT pulled  ont to the length of % of a -rail lenth,  the rails,are nq# conneced with tie-  -rods. The switch tower is now put in  and the switch is r^ady for use.  This switch is for the use of the smelter, ani is much needed.  SPRINGLE   &   '. WHITESIDE.
