The Story of "The Curtain Rises"
(By Benjamin Kaye)
—□—
The tale of an ugly duckling, stage-struck and in love with
the popular matinee idol of the day, forms the gay frame for this
romantic comedy hit. Vienna is the setting in which the heroine,
Elsa Karling, moves. Elsa, at the play's start, is rich, but unfortunately lacking in charm. She realizes the fact and finally decides
that she will buy what she wants; namely, romance. She has a
newspaperman, Arnz Zander, bring Wilhelm Meissinger, the matinee idol of Vienna, to her studio and offers him a large sum of
money to teach her to act. Meissinger refuses but sends his understudy, Franz Kernman, who with a few vigorous lessons, brings out
all Elsa's charm, whereupon many complications ensue.
Service to the Community
Is one of the principal aims of the Kinsmen
Club of Ladner, and this ideal is also held by
Delta Chapter, Imperial Order Daughters of
the Empire.
That Delta Chapter will continue to serve
its members and this community for many
years to come and that success will attend
this presentation of the Players' Club of
U.B.C. is the sincere wish of the . . .
Kinsmen Club of Ladner. //
