Wednesday, February 21st, 1923.
The   third  regular  meeting of   the   Senate   of
The  University   of  British  Columbia  for  the   1922-23
session  was  held   on Wednesday,   February  21st,   1923,   at
8:00   P.   M.,   in   the  Board Room.
Present:     The  President   (in  the  Chair),   Dean
F.   M.   Clement,   Dr.   R.   W.   Brock,Dr.   E.   H.   Archibald,
Mr.   E.   G.   Matheson,   Rev.   Dr.   W.   Leslie  Clay,   Bishop  de

Wednesday,   February  21st,   1923.
Report   of   the  Senate   Committee  on  Extra-mural   Courses
The  following resolutions will be   laid before  Senate:
1. That  the   Senate  approve  the  establishment   of
extra-mural  courses   in   the  University work  of
the  first  two  years  in  Arts,   it   being understood
that   the   fees   charged   for   such  courses   cover   the
expense   of clerical work and  any  other  expenses
involved.
2. That,   in view   of  the  educational needs   of   the
province,   the   Senate   strongly recommend  the
appointment   of a  Professor   of Education,   part
of whose  duty  shall   be   the  organization   of  extramural  and Summer  Session  courses   in  his  subject.

Dr. Clay suggested the striking out of all
words after "Education".  Mr. Fergusson, with the consent
of his seconder agreed to this.
The motion was put to vote, and lost - ayes 8;

738 The Chair announced that an invitation had
been extended to the Chiropractors and to the College
of Physicians and Surgeons to appear before Senate but
that neither of these organizations had availed itself
of the opportunity offered.
The Chair also announced that representatives
of the press had asked to be admitted.

Mr. Argue)  That, in view of the fact that the
press was not admitted to the
special meeting on Friday night,
in the judgment of this session, it
is undesirable that they should be
admitted now to hear only a part
of the discussion.
Motion withdrawn, as unnecessary.
739 (b)  On Examinations for Chiropractors:
Report
of Senate Committee
On Examinations for Chiropractors
February 21st, 1923.
Pursuant to your instruction your Committee
beg to submit the following resolutions, -
1.     RESOLVED that pursuant to the provisions of
the Medical Aot Amendment Act 1922, the Senate
of The University of British Columbia does
hereby appoint Dr. Alison Cumming, and Dr.
R. H. Mullin, both being duly qualified members
of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of
British Columbia in good standing, and Dr.
Willard Coates, and Dr. J. Leo Rice, both being
duly qualified Chiropractors as defined in
Section 29A of the Medical Act as set out in
Section 3 of the Medical Act Amendment Aot 1922,
as four members of the Examining Board provided
for in said Section 29A, for the year 1923. (322)

2*     RESOLVED that the Senate of The University
of British Columbia, pursuant to the powers
conferred upon it by the Medical Act Amendment
Aot 1922, does hereby order that the examination
authorised to be held under Section 29A of the
Medical Aot Amendment Aot 1922, be held at The
University of British Columbia, in the City of
Vancouver, commencing Tuesday the 13th day of
March, 1923, at the hour of 9 o'clock in the
morning, and that the Seoretary of the Senate
do forthwith give notice of said examination by
advertising the same in two issues of the British
Columbia Gazette, and daily for two weeks in a
daily newspaper published in the City of Victoria
and In the City of Vancouver.  The said notice
shall be as follows, -
TAKE NOTICE that, pursuant to Section 3 of
the Medical Aot Amendment Act 1922, the
Senate of The University of British Columbia
has arranged for an examination, and an
examination will be held, at The University
of British Columbia, commencing Tuesday the
13th day of March, 1923, at 9 A.M., of such
duly qualified Chiropractors as defined in
the said Act, as may present themselves for
examination pursuant to said Section 3, and
who shall make application for such
examination as hereinafter provided.
AND FURTHER TAKE NOTICE that all applicants
should forward their applications for the
examination, together with certificates
shewing that they are duly qualified Chiropractors within the meaning of the Medical
Act Amendment Act 1922, and the fee, viz
One Hundred Dollars ($100.00), for such
examination, to the undersigned before the
7th day of March, 1923.
Any further informati on. required will be
furnished by the undersigned.
