Bear Sir,
With reference to your memorandum of April 26th regarding m.v.
"Chelan8 aad "Bulk Carrier Ho, 2" lost on April 15th, 1954.
The only equipment belonging to the B.C.C.S.S. used on outside
vessels is pallet boards. These are only carried oa vessels operated by the
Union Steamships or on vessels chartered from another company aad which are
operated in joint operation with our company. Generally there are in the
neighborhood of two to three thousand boards belonging to the Canadian Pacific
that are used in the joint operation* These boards are worth approximately
$10.50 each.
Under the joint arrangement, we supply into the pool 25$ of the
total number of boards, the Union Steamships 23% and the Miite Pass & Yukon
50$. At any one time it is unlikely that the number of boards belonging to
the Canadian Pacific would exceed 300. Number of boards lost on "Bulk Carrier
No. 2" total 1,212, 606 belonging to the Miite Pass, 303 to the Union Steamships
and 303 to the Canadian Pacific.
Copy of telegram from Ar* W. A. Reid* Secretary of Union Steamships
dated April 29th is attached* You will note that Mr. Reid states the Union FORM 102 (Tin
