Notes |
The artist Walter Lohse was born in Belgium in 1897 and moved to Canada in 1930. He was employed as Assistant Art Director at the Gazette Printing Company in Montreal by 1942. Additionally, he is known for designing a commemorative stamp for the International Civil Aviation Organization. The 5 cent stamp celebrating the tenth anniversary of the organization was issued in June 1955. The bookplate owner, George H. Fensom, was likely a wealthy Toronto-based businessman. He was president and manager of Fensom Elevator Company, which in 1905 merged with the American elevator company Otis Elevator to form Otis-Fensom Elevator Company, Limited. In 1921 he was elected director of the company board.
