Reporr of Business Done in Pursuance of the Civil Service Superannuation Act
During the Fiscal Year Ended March 31, 1972
Sections 2, 4,4(a), 7, 8, 9,11,16,18,19,21, 43, 52, 53, 54, and 55 (employee

Section 13—As at March 31, 1972, deposits with the Treasury at credit of the
Civil Service Superannuation Fund amounted to $214,462,311.

Section 14—Interest earned by the Fund, amounting to $11,677,308, was received from the Minister of Finance. The distribution of this amount to the accounts
of the Fund is set out in the explanatory notes to the financial statements. It includes
credits to employee and employer contributory accounts calculated at 4 per cent per
annum for employees entering the Service subsequent to April 1, 1958, and 5 per
cent per annum for those entering the Service prior to that date on the balances on
the accounts at April 1 and October 1, 1971, and credits to Contributory Pensions
Account calculated at 5 per cent per annum on the balances at April 1 and October
1, 1971. Unappropriated interest amounting to $2,704,072 was credited to Reserve Account.
Section 17—-All moneys received and paid out under the provisions of this Act
are shown in the Statement of Changes in Fund Balance, and the assets and liabilities
appertaining to the granting of superannuation allowances are shown in the Statement of Financial Position.   These financial statements are attached to this Report.
Sections 18, 20, 22, and 47—During the year, 337 allowances were granted,
as follows:

As at March 31, 1972, there were 279 former contributors with credits in the
Fund who were eligible to apply for deferred superannuation allowances after attaining the minimum retirement age.
Sections 21 and 47 (4)—Of the 337 allowances granted, 255 were on the 2-
per-cent formula.
Section 24—Refunds totalling $114,676 were made to the spouse or estate in
respect of 56 contributors who died in service.
Section 25 (1)—Refunds totalling $1,541,880 were made to 1,934 former
contributors who left the Service, including 40 with more than 10 years of countable
service who elected to receive a refund. Of these, 10 were eligible to receive a
superannuation allowance immediately and 30 were entitled to leave their credits
in the Fund in order to receive a deferred superannuation allowance after attaining
the minimum retirement age.
As at March 31, 1972, there were 390 former contributors who had left the
Service more than three years prior to that date and who, while not entided to leave
their credits in the Fund in order to receive a deferred superannuation allowance,
had not applied for a refund of their contributions. Individual credits amounting
to $102,615 are listed in the attached schedule.
Section 29—Administration expenses amounting to $117,093 were paid from
Consolidated Revenue Fund.
Section 37—Payments to the Minister of Finance totalling $5,410 were made
from the credits of eight former contributors.
Sections 58a, 58b, 58c, 58d, and 58e—Supplementary allowances totalling
$1,140,419 were charged to the Reserve Account of the Fund.
By special arrangement, Crown Life Insurance Company reimbursed the Fund
amounts totalling $60,941, representing that portion of the superannuation allowances received by former employees of the Liquor Control Board that had been purchased from the company prior to August 1, 1961.

allowances granted and in force at the year-end are attached to this Report.
PART III—DEATH BENEFITS FUND
As at March 31, 1972, there were 2,135 superannuants participating.
During the year, 87 claims amounting to $55,400 were paid from funds provided as follows:
