LAUNCH FOR MAYER LAKE  Speedy Craft to be Placed on Pretty  Lake by Surveyor.  Owing to the rapid settlement of  the Mayer lake district, and the  demand for a speedy craft to take  the settlers from one end of the  lake to the other, Frank Rice, P.L.  S., it is reported, has decided to  put on a capable of making about  eight miles an hour.  Died at Prince Rupert.  Mrs. Alice Bell, a daughter of  Ben Chapman, of the Masset reserve, died in the Prince Rupert  general hospital a few days ago.  The young woman was taken sudden y ill, before the last trip of  the steamer Prince John, and it,  was decided to move her to "Prince  Rupert, to undergo an operation,  from the effects of which 9he did  not survive. The remains will be  brought to Masset. for   interment.  To Contractors.  Tenders are wanted for the clearing of two blocks at Graham Centre.  Full particulars from C. M. Adam  atGarhum Centre. Entwiale, the real-estate  man, is planning construction of a  fastlannch, designed to make the  trip from Masset to Queenstown in  a shorter time than is consumed by  the launches now on the inlet. The  contract for the hull is to be let to  S, S. Oliver, the boat-builder.  Annie D. in Commission.  The gasoline schooner Annie D.,  which formerly belonged te Andrew  Brown of the Masset Indians will  be used during the season as a fishery protection boat.  ous dancers of the Masset band, is  entirely incorrect. Neylands,, besides being an exponent of the  light fantastic, is also a canoe-  builder, and is very much alive.  He is manufacturing a- "dug-out"  canoe, across the inlet, and expects  to take part in many more feasts  and dancing bouts before crossing  the great divide to the Happy  Hunting grounds.  J. H. Park, president of the East  Coast farmers'institute, was a Masset visitor last Saturday, and addressed the meeting of the directors  of the Masset Inlet institute.  A. Vanderbom and family plan  to leave on today's steamer for the  south.  Walter Purkis. secretary of the  farmers' institute, was in town this  week from his ranch.  Henry Brun and Isaac Chapman,  of the B. C. Fisheries, arrived in  Massett recently on the launch  Rydah, They are engaging fishermen for the company. It is a  fact that money has been spent in  the Sktena district in places needing it far less thao. does the Queen  Charlotte islands. One of the best  road-building jobs in these parts  was the road from the beach to  Delkatlah���������and there is but one  preemptor who uses it, and he only  part of the time. For several weeks there has been a  report in circulation that the sawmill and extensive timber holdings  of the Moresby Island Lumber  Company at Queen Charlotte haa  passed into other-hands. Definite  information from an outside source  says the report is correct, and that  the purchasers are theNorth American Timbei & Holdings Company,  of Chicago. This is -.said to be a  very strong concern, and where  their operations are carried on they  are on an extensive scale. The  deal will undoubtedly mean a big  thing for Queen Charlotte, and in  fact for the whole southern portion  of Graham Island.
