' Not a district last*year, nor this year, will see anything like the money really required for its improvement. Rather the idea seems to take as little money as possible, dig and grade here and there, so as to make a large showing. It is a fact that money has been spent in the Sktena district in places needing it far less thao. does the Queen Charlotte islands. One of the best road-building jobs in these parts was the road from the beach to Delkatlahand there is but one preemptor who uses it, and he only part of the time. This road cost, it has been said, something like @4,000. It is w pretty fair road, but the same money expended in some other district, would have fa^en oi vastly more benefit. How- Smiltl MS BEEN SOLD North American Timber & Holdings Go. the Purchasers. For several weeks there has been a report in circulation that the sawmill and extensive timber holdings of the Moresby Island Lumber Company at Queen Charlotte haa passed into other-hands. Definite information from an outside source says the report is correct, and that the purchasers are theNorth American Timbei & Holdings Company, of Chicago. This is -.said to be a very strong concern, and where their operations are carried on they are on an extensive scale. The deal will undoubtedly mean a big thing for Queen Charlotte, and in fact for the whole southern portion of Graham Island. The sawmill is located right in the town of Queen Charlotte, and the timber limits areclote at hand. -Everything is in shape for the new company to. commence operations in short.order.
