Retailers, especially those who handle narishablq. goods,' are enabled to carry smaller stocks of goods and have a fresh supply on hand m a short time. .-- Before'the advent of ' the motor truck the uncertainty and length of time it took to ' receive shipments necessitated concerns investing heavily in goods and supplies to have sufficient stock on hand for continuous production; as well as protection in case of railroad tie-ups. pp'; ' "The motor truck has eliminated this dependency on uncertain transportation methods. il enables concerns to go'after materials at any time, thereby reducing the amount of available supplies and keeping the other pur- and the great demand for their service comes the temptation to carry all the trucks wilp-stand' up under, and this is the direct cause of many troubles which builders cannot control, but for which they often are taken to task. "Tires also suffer from overloading and disintegrate very rapidly,,.to say nothing about the pavements 'and good roads which are costing the commonwealth millions of dollars. "A two-ton truck is not built to carry seven tons./.By careful use it may be loaded with 50 per cent, more than its rated capacity, but beyond that the owner is' paying heavily for his disregarcrof the truck's rating--- . ■ ■ . ..( _"H often has been said that whisky and gasolinfe will not mix, but a wonderful result is obtained by mixing brains with gasoline." 1 ONE WAY TO STOP SLIPPING CLUTCH When the clutch starts to slip many drivers make the mistake of racing thePengine in the .expectation, that the car will move'faster. The proper way'! to handle the slipping clutch is to qjp erate the engine slowly with little change of speed, in the hope that the flywheel will catch and carry the clutch around. Racing the engine makes matters worse, for the clutch gets no chance to lipid, and there is a chance .that it may be burned out altogether. Keep Your Battery Fully Charged with a Tunriar MWMjj^y^^tfZi \:$0?M j^H Bv~ AlPbatteries run down even though they are in connection with a generator on your engine. Don't starve your battery and expect it to-do good work. The little Tungar is just what you need. Start your charge and leave it over night—the rectifier will do the rest. 9PeF" ates from any lighting circuit from i io to 120 volts. Ask us to demonstrate The Tungar Rectifier developed by the Research Laboratory* .of the" General Electric (Company ^simplifies small-battery charg- I ing. It is designed to change the alter- I nating current, found in most resi- ' dence garages, into direct current which is required to charge a storage battery." --. The TUNGAR will give a starting battery sufficient charge overnight to be assured a starting capacity the next morning, even though the battery be entirely exhausted. The discovery that has made the * TUNGAR possible is really embrac- ■ ed in the-small bulb in which the process of changing the alternating ■-"■ current *--to-;-direct current takes place. This"'bulb closely resembles an incandescent' lamp, it is filled with an inert gas and contains a tungsten filament and an "anode" of graphite. The bulb'is mounted in a black /, japanned casing with a'perforated top. This .casing contains, aP compensator which'reduces the alternating voltage without using wasteful \ resistance, and also excites the fila- j' ment in the bulb. In addition, the casing contains a fuse to protect f against the reversal of the battery and other overloads. Canadian General Electric Co. Limited .
