It is almost impossible to cut an accurate gasket with a knife or scissors, but with the cutter these little necessities may he made with absolute accuracy. A cult Ins hinds It carried on this device on a sliding bar, so that any size gasket may he obtained. JACKET REPAIR A neat repair of a cracked water jacket may be made in the following way, .■provided the crack is so small that the water merely seeps out. The' interior of the jacket is thoroughly cleaned out and filled with a solution of sulphate of copper or blue stone, This leaks out through the crack and in so doing deposits a thin film of pure copper'that seals the crack. WATER LEAKS hi engines that are provided with a plate on the side to facilitate work on the interior it,is not uncommon to find that water is escaping here in spite of the rubber and fabric composition with which itis sealed. As a general thing this condition may be remedied by simply paint the plate with shallac or red'lead and then screwing it tightly into place. AFTER GRINDING VALVES it is possible to tell just how successful the operation of grinding valves has been by the following simple process. .Mark the face of the valve all around lightly with a soft lead pencil. Then place the valve in position, turn it on its seat for a few minutes and remove, there is contact all around, but if anything is left, the point where face and seat do not meet is readily apparent. SIZING THEM UP PITTED VALVES The average car owner does not seem to realize that grinding will not cure a badly-pitted valve head and seat. In cases where this condition exists the valve should be removed and, smoothed down on a lathe or valve reseating tool, and the seat should be similary treated before the two are placed together for the grinding that will give them perfect contact. 40 per cent, longer life 18 months* Guarantee PRICE NO HIGHER Call.and see us when pausing JARVIS ELECTRIC CO. Dr. F. T. Underbill, city medical health officer, who has forcibly and pointedly called upon the aldermen to make provision for additional burial accommodation in the Mountain View cemetery, told the city council that the numerous deaths from the "flu" epidemic had now filled up all available family plots in I he whole cemetery and there was nothing but odd unoccupied graves in various parts of the cemetery left. There is no mistaking the fact that Vancouver has tackled a titian task in undertaking to raise $.15,000,000 in the city proper, but the local Victory Loan Committee believe that it can be done and there are a lot of patriotic citizens who are showing in a practical manner that they intend to back the committee up in that laudable undertaking. But the city will have to do better than a million a day, which it has been averaging since the campaign started in order to reach that coveted objective and go "over the top", by the closing day of the campaign. There is practically no doubt that the city will reach its official Quota of ?S,000,000 and win an honor flag. But the energetic committee, headed by Mayor Gale and Vice-Chair- man Frank Parsons, hope to win at least three crowns for that honor flag before the final day of the campaign, ft can be done and with some to spare if only those who are hesitating or deferring to a later day the purchase of Victory Bonds, would subscribe now and thus set a worthy example j to others who may also incline to dilatoriness. NOTICE TO CONTRACTORS Sealed tenders ..for the above work, endorsed "Tender Section No. S," and with the name of the tenderer will be received at the offices of the Board, 401-402 Credit" Fonder Building, S50 Hastings street west, until the llth day of November, at 10.30 a.m., at which time the tenders will be opened, and referred to the Engineer for report. 'D. Creer, M.E.I.C., Engineer of the Board, 409-410 Credit Foncier Building, on payment of a sum of $50, which tv ill be refunded on the return of all plans and documents supplied. No tender will be considered unless accompanied by a certified cheque upon a Vancouver branch of a Chartered Bank, payable to the order of the Board for a sum of five thousand dollars. On the awarding of the contract the cheque of the unsuccessful tenderers will be returned to them and the; s» cheque of the successful tenderer will be cashed and the amount retained as security or part security for tho'due execution and performance of the contract.
