All  lieutenants will now be promoted to captains  and  will   receive   captain's  pay  under    the    new    scale,    which    will  bring  them  to .$1.40-  a  month. The production of copper in British Columbia last year was 62,858,628  pounds, valued at $15,480,823, as. compared with .57,7.30,958 pounds, valued  •at $15,691,275 in 1917, an increase of  approximately  9  per cent.  PROVINCIAL NOTES.  A contract has been let by the  Surrey .school board for the clearing  of the two-acre school site at Cole-  brook. The provincial educational  department have -made a grant not  to exceed $500 towards the building  of the new school  at this place.  SHIPBUILDING  The end of the war naturally lessened shipbuilding activity but it was  almost entirely confined to wooden  ships. The building of steel ships  goes on unabated.
