The British Columbia Record - Is the official organ of The .Architectural Institute of British Columbia, federated with The Royal Architectural Institute- of Canada, and The Engineorinar & technical Institute of British Columbia, and as such is used by them as the medium through vrhich to make their official announcements to the general public. , By such selection the Bntisli Columbia Record Is no wise pledged to editorial support of any policy advanced by these societies, but maintains an »bi»r lutely independent position on all matters subject to editorial opinion. • BUILD NOW AND BUILD WELL Now that the frosts of war which drove the building industries into hibernation has been dispelled by the grateful warmth of the armistice and approaching peace, the dormant bear of investment—Finance—stirs in its slumbers, rubs its eyes and prepares to seek whom, it may''devour; but dazed from its long inactivity, ema-, ciated from its enforced fast, Finance is cautious. It is like the architects, and the architects are like the twenty cats camped' around one tiny knot .hole from which one timid mouse exposes one bristly little whisker. So,, queries Mr. Investment Finance: Can "we build now? What about capital issues? What about priorities? What about the next "Victory Loan? What about the high, cost of 'labor? What. about the high price of material? Still, despite all these doubts, the spring thaw that releases the stored- up snows of -winter, with its resultant freshets,, will'wash away all obstacles to progress. Shall we wisely impound and direct this floor or shall .we-permit its uncontrollable flow to . wreak destruction perhaps equal to that of the devastation of war? In the opinion of public-spirited yet careful and conservative men who are credited with looking well ahead, we are going to build and build and build; wages and prices to the contrary; not withstanding. The sleeping stirs and awakens. Look out when he sheds the superfluous hair from his shaggy fur and starts to get busy. Some of the timid ones will be rudely shouldered aside then.
