The basis of comparison, however, should be present day prices of.other commodities. On such a basis, the cost of building today is low, as is clearly evident in the Department of Labor comparison. Most any commodity today will buy more square, feet ot building., than "it •would before the war. In other words, building costs have not increased as much as commodity prices. It is clear then, as an investment, .building offers better value than almost anything else that can be bought. Other questions, however, suggest themselves. "If I build now at high cost, how, will my investment stand in later, years if building.costs go down?" The answer to this query, is that there is an absolute shortage of buildings now and the will be started next week under the direction of Mr. Cunningham.
