VANCOUVER—Representing eastern capital, S. Matheson has opened  offices "at 517 Rogers Bldg., for the  Vancouver Shipyards and Engine  Works, Ltd. The company is reported to be capitalized at $750,000 and  will first undertake construction of  wooden vessels. A deal is reported  to be pending for a shipbuilding site.  Mr. Matheson stated yesterday that  he had closed the deal rorUhe site  but would give no'information as to  its exact location. He also refused to  say positively whether tender* for  the' construction work would be called, but intimated/that the work would  be done by contract.  NEW-WESTMINSTER—A. E. Pore-  man, public works engineer; advises  City Engineer Stewardson that the  question' of what proportion of the  cost of a retaining walhat the Fraser  bridge approach should be borne by  the government is under consideration.  This wall is proposed to take the place  of an old "timber crib now oncits last  legs and liable to collapse next winter.- carrying with it the bridge approach.    It would cost about $1,000.
