The British Columbia Record Is the official erg-an of The Architectural Institute of British Columbia, federated with The Royal Architectural Institute of Canada, and The Engineering & Technical Institute of British Columbia, and as such is used by them as the medium through which to make their official announcements to the general public ' be one of limited means it is not easily settled—at least not without careful consideration of the costs. Many justifiable complaints have been uttered T)y intending, builders must come from another direction. Every effort should be made to cut down the overhead as well as eliminating all the little "extras" often put there to only attract the fancy and pile up the cost. Economy in building through simplicity and dose co-operation between architect, owner and builder and the obtaining of the best results from the best materials, is one solution of the housing problem. Another solution— and one that will have to be faced within the next few months—is the construction of a large number of the soldier housing act will not even provide enough homes for returned men and their families, to say "nothing of ...„ - .. against .the high price of lumber, brick, By such selection the British Colum-1 .„..„,„ . • , . <-..,.. ■bia Record is no wise pledged to edi- j haidw ai-e, etc., but one fact that is torial support of any policy advanced J mainly overlooked in this connection by these societies, but maintains an abso-i . .,.,.,,..,.<., , . .. .. lutely independent position on all mat-!18 tnat biu.dmg is higher today than hnmoe >1V .„ , . ."•" . It is doubtful' if the demand for homes of all, classes is i'gre?ter in any large city on the continent, in proportion to the population, than right here.
