Not more than 11 a of the 376 applicants within the boundaries of the city can be accommodated owing to the city's allocation of ?300,000 from the provincial government not being sufficient to cover all the applications, acording to a report which has been prepared by the special housing committee 'of the city council for presentation -to that'body at its meeting tonight. The average values of the houses applied for range from $2,650' to $2,800, althougt there are a few more pretentious-homes which run from $3,000 to $3,500. The council tonight will consider two important, phases of the housing scheme. One will be the advisability of applying to the provincial government for an increase of at least another $100,000 in the appropriation of $.'',00,000 for homes for returned men. Another matter will he the appointment of a consulting architect to the city building inspector's -department in-order to prepare and supervise the plans for these soldier's homes and. generally oversee the construction. be delivered to Mr.' S.
