are not given on the majority of permit, applications at the city hall and
consequently are not puNished, except
when given, in the list of permits

Prince Rupert���The city council has
recommended that immediate steps be
taken to prepare plans for a gas producer plant to supplement the present
one. The present plant has a capacity of about 75,00m itMowats. The
council has also been partitioned to
increase the sir; of the r.'.ectrlc light
plant. The pec.ilr, -U -ote on the

hydro-electric plant.
ESTIMATE  MADE  FOR
BURNABY WATER TANKS
The municipality of ilurnaby is to
have erected thrc-" water tanks of
wood stave an' steel band construction, with a capacity of 100,000 gallons
each, and a distributing plant. The engineer has put in his estimate of the
cost and the matter will soon go to the
city council for action. The water will
be pumped from wells and the pipe
used will probably be of steel with
lead joints.
LARGE WATER  SUPPLY
SYSTEM  FOR  PENTICTON
A good-sized contract will soon be
awarded at Penticton, B. C, for a
water works system and distributing
plant. Tenders were to have closed
Saturday and the contract will be
awarded as soon as the council can
act upon them. The estimated cost
was $70,000, and the work included the
digging of ditches, laying a pipe line
and constructing a reservoir and Intake. Fifteen miles of steel and cast-
iron pipe of various sizes will be required. The water supply will ho
taken from  i'entlcton Creek.

The members of the Sheet Metal
Workers' Association have decided to
recognize the open shop principal of
operating hereafter. Most of the master plumbers and steamfltters have
also decided to throw open their shops.

TO BE
REMODELED
Architect Claude P. Jones, 429 Pender W., is preparing plans for the alteration of the Imperial Hotel on Powell
St. and will be ready for tenders in
about a week. The ground floor will
be remodeled and a bar and billiard
room fitted up.

work on the A. J. Dana dwelling at
Shaughnessy Heights. Robertson &
Hackett are doing the mill work; .las.

plumbing and heating contract, and
Graham & McLeod have the cement,
Btone and brick work.
EDMONDS  TO  HAVE
FINE  MUNICIPAL   HALL
The municipal hall al Edmonds, District of Burnaby, for which a general
contract wub recently let to ('. T. Mc-
Phnlen, 828 Seventh Ave. 10., and for
which plans were prepared by Architects Somervell & Putnam, will be it
one-story, attic and basement, 78x60 ft.,
stone and brick structure. The basement will contain the police court,
cells, health department, magistrate's
room, storage and toilets.   The ground

cil chamber, committee rooms, reeve's
office, clerk and stenographer's office
The attic will contain the engineer's
office and drafting roms. The building
will contain three fireproof walls and
a fireproof vault 9x11 ft. A hot water
heating system will be installed.
TENDERS OPENED, BUT
CONTRACTS NOT AWARDEO
Tenders were opened June 6th for
work on the two-story 78x100 Btoro
building to be erected for the Hudson's Hay Co. from plans by Architects
Dalton & Everleigh, 615 Hastings W.
The owners are undecided as to whether to use steel or mill construction
und contracts have not yet been
awarded. The estimated cost is about
$50,000. Specifications include concrete foundation, metal ceiling, wood
fibre plaster, exterior finish of pressed
brick and Haddington stone trimming,
hot water heating, plumbing and electric lighting.
STEEL CONTRACTS AWARDED
ON NEW  DEPOT
The reinforcing steel contract on
the II. C. Electric t'o.'s new depot has
been awarded to the Canadian Equipment & Supply Co., 418 Pacific Building, and the contract for the steel columns has been awarded to the Canadian Foundry Co. Other tenders will
be called for by McDonald & Wilson,
the general  contractors.
