Local and District Improvements
Joe Russell, game warden left
Tuesday morning up the Fraser
river on patrol of his district.
"Bob" Hutch left for the coast
Sunday morning with the intention of returning shortly to good
old Lillooet.
Greg. McConoha stage driver
from Ashcroft drove in with the
Ashcroft stage on Monday and
reports the roads very heavy.
Taffy Monroe arrived Tuesday
from the Gange Ranche and left
Wednesday for No 1 camp, Mission mountain.
John Gillis of'-Ashcroft came
in on Monday's stage and intends
leaving shortly for the Bridge
river country.
Stuart Henderson of Ashcroft
paid a flying visit to Lillooet on
Monday on business and left on
Tuesday morning.
Archdeacon Pugh arrived Saturday from Lytton and held Divine service morning and evening in St. Mary's church.
J. H. S. Rowbottom and Joe.
Shuster came down from Gunn
creek last Saturday, the weather
was rather damp up Bridge river
but a blessing to the ranchers.
G. Brady, commercial traveller
for R. P. Rithet & Co. of Victoria arrived Friday and did considerable business in town and locality.
P. Stoutenburg and wife and
family arrived Sunday from the
14-mile ranch on the Lytton road,
combining a pleasure and business
trip to Lillooet and left Tuesday
morning.
Mr. and Mrs. Clarke have arrived in Lillooet and intend to
settle here permanently. Everyone welcomes this new addition
to the ever increasing Lillooet
family.
George W. Corbin manager of
the Astor Hotel of Vancouver
visited Lillooet for a few days
and was greatly impressed with
our town. "Uncle Fred" gives
all a hearty welcome to the Astor
when visiting Vancouver and
proved himself a good entertainer
with legerdemain tricks, • to the
amusement of all beholders, quite
a number of whom got stung.
Considerable improvements
have been done to the approach
of the Post Office, which will be
greatly appreciated by the general public more especially in the
winter time. Mrs. Egan, the
postmistress is to be complimented upon the able manner in
which she has improved the post
office.
The Dominion Wood Pipe Co.,
of Westminster have shipped a
car load of piping to A. W. Phair
which will be installed from his
ranch to Moon creek. There will
be a length of over three miles
when completed, which will take
about three carloads ofpiping.
M. R. Eagleson has taken a
trip to the coast to examine and
bring over his new Automobile,
and he will cordially give an invitation to the Butch, the Red,
and the Game, on the initial trip
with the Grizzly in command.
Geo. Armstrong, fruit nurseryman of the Fraser River Nurseries arrived Monday with a large
assortment of fruit trees which
will be distributed to different
parts of the district to the individual purchasers.
F. C. Swannell, P.L.S. and D.
A. MacDonald arrived Saturday
from Victoria and left by special
boat Sunday morning to join his
party of surveyors in Pemberton
Meadows.
John Patton of Vancouver is
one of the visitors to Lillooet at
present with the intention of
speculating in real estate and
other good things appertaining
to this section.
J. Riley arrived from Clinton
and is operating the blacksmith
shop in town, which will be a
great convenience to the local
ranchers.
Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Noel arrived on Wednesdays boat from
the Coronation group at Cadwallader. They spent a few-
days at the Big Home ranch.
Bert Durban brought his team
down on Wednesday's boat from
the Short Portage, where he has
been clearing land on his father's
ranche.
Mr. J. M. Yorston, Census
Commissioner • for Cariboo and
Lillooet will arrive in Lillooet on
Monday.
It is expected that before Fall
transportation facilities will be
bettered from Mission Landing
to Gunn creek as there will be
about 30 men working on the
road by the end of the week.
Mr. J. Bell, road supt. has been
in this vicinity all week superin-*
tending operations.
W. W. Jones of the Fairhaven
ranche is busy with his pack train
packing from the Mission Landing to points on Bridge river.
Fairhaven ranch is looking splendid and the fruit trees are in full
bloom.
T. Alford is busy at the Gunn
Creek ranche putting in the crop.
A hearty welcome is offered to
all travellers going up to the
mines from Lillooet. Fresh fish
every day, principally Dolly Var-
den.
B. S. Swanson paid a visit to
town from his ranche at Bananaj-
dale, he had previously been up
to Alexander creek Hydraulic
property attending to the flumes
and ditches.
Frank Bard arrived from the
22 after completing the renovating of the Pavilion Flour Mills,
owned by Mr. Tiffin of Vancouver with H. Logan in charge.
Grant White and Geo. D. Bell
are doing considerable improvements of the Tyaughton Ranche
and at present are blowing out
stumps.
Jack Brown has finished his
cabin at the lower end of Big
Gunn lake, where he has a preemption. Jack has the finest
fishing Lake in the Lillooet district, it being about 8 miles long
and 1 1-2 miles wide, with good
bear hunting and other game
quite local.
The jurymen arrived from Clinton Wednesday evening with the
four horse team driven by Ed.
Dougherty. The jurors were H.
L. Phair, D. McDonald, S. Gibbs,
E. S. Holt, H. J. Keary, F. Bishop. W. Abercrombie and Roy
Burkholder. They brought back
with them an old lithograph picture of "Custers last stand" as a
souvenier of their trip. On account of interpreter and other
technecalities no cases were called and the jurymen dismissed.
New Strike
Joe Shuster has some very fine
specimens of Free gold quartz,
which he secured from a new
find that he has located on the
South fork. The claims are situated about 2 1-2 miles northeast
from the Lome mines.
0. Elliott was a passenger on
Tuesday's stage from Lytton and
will probably leave for the mines
shortly.
W. Riley left Wednesday for
the Lome mines where he will
be employed during the coming
summer.
Dan Hamilton is still working
away at his placer claim on South
fork and by all appearances is
i    doing very well in securing the
|     filthy lucre.

R. Davidson, J. H. Davidson.
M. Crane of Vancouver took a
prospecting trip up Cayoosh creek
Wednesday. They will probably
be away a few weeks.
Will Haylmore left Thursday to
complete the assessment work on
the John Dunlop property. Seton
lake. There is a fine body of ore
carrying good values and Will
says that this property will be
heard from in the near future.
D. Hurley arrived from Cadwallader Monday after paying a
visit to his property the Lome
mines. He reports favorable
work having been done by tho
contractors W. Elliott and D.
Coughlan who have been running
a tower tunnel for the last few
months.
The Coronation Group under
the able management of Superintendent Copp, assisted by a
number of men, are being prepared for the summer's run. In
all probability the ten stamp mill
will be running full swing night
and day, at an early date.
Messrs. Ferguson.' Walker and
nephew started operations on the
Marconi * group of claims, the
ditch which was completed last
summer has stood the winter
snows well and piping will be
commenced very soon. The ditch
is over two miles long and is a
credit to the integrity and good
workmanship of Messrs Ferguson
