Abstract

This research, conducted by a team of students in ENVR400 at the University of British Columbia, investigates the carbon emissions of retrofit versus redevelopment options for the Alder Bay Housing Co-op in False Creek South Neighborhood, Vancouver. The study emerges from an urgent need for low carbon urban planning solutions, particularly in light of upcoming lease expirations, the housing crisis, and Vancouver’s push towards net-zero carbon developments (City of Vancouver, 2024).
