The implementation of chem study in British Columbia secondary schools : a survey Nasr, Gamal El-Din Ibrahim
Abstract
The CHEM Study program was adopted with minor modifications in 1966 in British Columbia senior secondary schools. The present study aimed at investigating the status of CHEM Study in British Columbia schools in 1976/77, including teaching practices and problems encountered with the implementation of the CHEM Study program. A questionnaire was developed and distributed to the chemistry teachers; two hundred and thirty one teachers returned it. It is estimated that 88% of all chemistry teachers in British Columbia participated in this study. The analysis of the data shows mainly that the CHEM Study program was not generally implemented according to the methodology outlined by its designers, and that the CHEM Study materials were subjected to various modifications and adaptations.
