Impurity effects in antiferromagnetic quantum spin-1/2 chains Eggert, Sebastian

Abstract

We calculate the effects of a single impurity in antiferromagnetic quantum spin-1/2 chains with the help of one-dimensional quantum field theory and renormalization group tech niques in the low temperature limit. We are able to present numerical evidence from ex act diagonalization, numerical Bethe ansatz, and quantum Monte Carlo methods, which support our findings. Special emphasis has been put on impurity effects on the local susceptibility in the chain, because of the experimental relevance of this quantity. We propose a muon spin resonance experiment on quasi one-dimensional spin compounds, which may show some of the impurity effects.
