Static dielectric screening and exchange in the layered electron gas Glaus, Ulrich Walter

Abstract

The static screening properties of the layered electron gas are studied using a very idealized model. Exchange and correlation have been included to first order. A generalized susceptibility is obtained, which is consistent with the results of other authors. The induced charge density in linear response to a positive point charge in one of the planes predicted by the new susceptibility exhibits slowly decaying long range oscillations. Finally, a formula for the screened potential of external charges between layers is given, which might be of some use in an application to intercalation compounds.
