Particle simulations of a one dimensional plasma Alfheim, Arne

A Particle In Cell (PIC) code has been developed that simulates a one dimensional plasma. The plasma model was electrostatic with fixed ions. The code was used to simulate Landau damping and the two stream instability. Results obtained showed good agreement with the theoretical behaviour for both phenomenon. Conservation of energy was also checked. The total energy was found to deviate only slightly so that energy conservation was achieved.
