Charged photoparticles from argon. Reimann, Michael Andrew
Abstract
The energy distribution of charged photopartides from the interaction of the A⁴⁰ nucleus with 17.64 Mev and 14.7 Mev gamma rays from the reaction Li⁷ (p,ϒ)Be⁸ has been obtained using a gridded ionization chamber. A total cross section of 5.8 mb. was found for the combined production of photoprotons and photoalphas. Peaks in the energy spectrum corresponding to photoproton events leading to the ground and first excited states of the residua nucleus Cl³⁹ were identified but some features of the energy distribution remain unexplained.
