A Real time simulator for power electric networks Linares-Rojas, Luis R.

Abstract

The main task of a real-time power network simulator on an off-the-shelf hardware platform, the IBM RISC System/6000 model 560 machine, is presented. Simplified models, based on those used in the EMIT, are included for the network elements: lumped resistors, capacitors, inductors and constant distributed parameter transmission lines. Fast nonlinear models are used for current and potential transformers. New fast modelling schemes for switching operations are introduced. A very flexible, portable, and efficient algorithm, which takes advantage of the decoupling due to the signals time delay between sections of a power network separated by transmission lines, is introduced.
