A new reaction for coordinated dinitrogen MacKay, Bruce Alexander
Abstract
The chemistry of the tantalum dinitrogen complex [NPN]Ta(μ-H)₂(μ-η¹:η²- N₂)Ta[NPN] (where [NPN] = (PhNSiMe₂CH₂)₂PPh) with main group hydride reagents is explored. The H-E bond of these reagents (E = B, Al, Si) undergoes addition across a Ta-N π bond, leading to formation of a new N-E bond and a new tantalum hydride. These complexes undergo spontaneous cleavage of the remaining N-N bond, coupled to reductive elimination of bridging hydride ligands as H₂.
