Torsional structural response during earthquake excitations Mackenzie, James Ronald
Abstract
A structure exhibits a torsional response when subjected to an earthquake excitation. This response depends on the beating phenomenon and the eccentricity in an unsyitmetrical structure. A symmetrical structure may also exhibit a torsional response if a rotational earthquake excitation is present.
A limit on the torsional response spectrum for an earthquake is determined. The importance of beating and of eccentricities are discussed in reference to the National Building Code.
