CMB (Cosmic Microwave Background) Ducharme, Michael James Jeffery
Abstract
This thesis, titled CMB (Cosmic Microwave Background), is a 15-minute musical work for a chamber sextet with live electronics and interactive video. It is a quasi-spectral work that utilizes sonifications and data from the Cosmic Microwave Background radiation of the Universe to generate harmonic spectra from which the various subsections draw. The Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) radiation is an echo of the Big Bang that marked the beginning of the Universe. Using CMB data provided by the University of British Columbia Department of Physics and Astronomy, I have created an innovative multimedia work using acoustic instruments, live electronics, and interactive video that depicts the evolution of the Universe from its beginnings to its eventual end.
