A calculation of the single scattering contribution to the differential cross-section for the elastic scattering of 25-100 MeV positive pions by deuterium McMillan, Malcolm; Landau, Rubin H.
Abstract
We have performed a numerical study of the single
scattering contribution to the differential cross-section
for the elastic scattering of 25-100 MeV positive pions by
deuterium. In particular, we have examined effects due to
the presence of the D-state component of the deuteron wave
function, to internal motion of the target nucleons, and
to uncertainties in the off-energy-shell pion-nucleon
scattering amplitudes and the pion-nucleon phase shifts.
Our results encourage further experimental and theoretical
study of pion-nucleon and pion-deuteron scattering. They
also encourage an experimental and theoretical study of
π± - ³He elastic scattering as a means of investigating ³He
wave function components.
