Developing A Parcel-Based Population Model for the Central Okanagan Taylor-Noonan, Cameron
Abstract
Abstract The spatial resolution of the land use information used by local governments for planning and engineering is often insufficient for the pedestrian-scaled analysis of cities. The aim of this project was to develop a simple, user-friendly model for generating population estimates at a parcel level as part of a broader initiative to quantify urban areas at fine scale in the Central Okanagan. The final model incorporates Census data on occupancy rates, average household sizes, and neighbourhood household composition to produce small area populations estimates which are more accurate than traditional housing unit approaches without significantly adding to the resources or time required for implementation.
