Spectacles and Stuff Ferguson, Anna

Abstract

A theatre of salvage and happenstance, where discarded objects become actors, mediators, and narrators in an ongoing spectacle of consumption and creation. Reconsidering the value and narrative of material things, embracing clutter, reuse, and the stories embedded in what we acquire, cherish, and leave behind. Presented through a model and narrative created by collections, treasures and scraps, this project addresses the need to bring art and performance back to the downtown core, acknowledge Granville Street’s rich legacy, resist urban homogeneity, and propose an alternative way of engaging with material culture, one that re-imagines our relationship to consumption and waste.
