Redress, Steward, Share, En-joy : Designing the Future of Maplewood Mudflats Kohlmann, Samuel

Abstract

Maplewood Flats is a wild bird conservation area in North Vancouver, BC located on the traditional, unceded territory of the Tsleil-Waututh Nation currently stewarded by the Wild Bird Trust. The site faces challenges from invasive species, soil contamination, and salt water inundation. This project aims to design: a site framework plan, native plant nursery, and coastal adaptation pilot projects. The intention behind these are to restore cultural practices and keystone species while fostering intergenerational knowledge transfer and self-determination. Ultimately, the project seeks to catalyze the adoption of its plan by the WBT.
