Nostalgic Futures Agyei, Edwin

Abstract

Pieces of place, pieces of heritage and pieces of history. Drawing from these different pieces and putting them together with sensitivity and tact is key within this thesis. Looking at food infrastructure and these pieces could be transformative in revitalizing communities dealing with drastic urban change. How could food infrastructure be an evocative tool for nostalgia, social cohesion and bringing about a renewal that takes from historic aspects and moments from the past? This thesis examines precedents, undertakes diagrammatic analysis, investigates site characteristics and demographics in trying to understand notions of place. Along with food infrastructure and how food is universal and intertwined with all our lives and plays a part in shaping how we connect and relate.
