A PROXIMATE Lau, Jovis Chui-Yin
Abstract
In facing societal matters that seem overwhelmingly daunting, complicity often feels like a refuge. Remaining detached and indifferent serves as a buffer, protecting us from potential missteps or uncomfortable conversations. it is precisely this fear of error that leads to disengagement. However, meaningful social breakthrough begins with even the smallest acts of engagement. Dialogue is indispensable as it bridges the gap between unfamiliarity and understanding. This project aims to foster proximity with topics and phenomena within Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside that initially seem distant.
