Fostering cooperation and collaboration in the Food and Nutrition classrooms : a self-study action research project Wei, I-Chien (Phoebe)
Abstract
Cooperation and collaboration among students extends beyond arranging students into groups and requiring them to complete projects together. This graduate paper examines my personal development when infusing cooperative and collaborative language and teaching strategies in the Food and Nutrition 10,11, and 12 classes. In addition, setting the tone, using various ice breaker activities and frequent group changes, two cooperative and collaborative teaching strategies were used to enable students to practice skills that enable them to be more cooperative and collaborative when working in a group setting following plan, act, observe, reflect cycles of action research. The reflective nature of this project also empowered me to reexamine definitions of teaching, resulting in a transformational approach to my own learning.
