Planting seeds for a garden : a project report of a secondary school food-based garden Rourke, Barry G.

Abstract

This graduating project reveals how a secondary school food-based garden project in the British Columbia Interior transformed from an idea to an instructional garden. I saw a need for my secondary students at my school to reconnect with the natural world and be exposed to a handson approach to ecology. I formed a small food-based garden committee and with the partnership of community members and varied departments within the school a food-based school garden dream became reality. I found the food-based school garden was valuable to restore knowledge about the true source of food and teach gardening and agriculture concepts and skills that incorporate several subjects. This is the story of my journey.
