Empathy and home economics education : transformation and emancipation Melnyk, Brianne
Abstract
While research shows that empathy can be taught and has the potential to transform the lives of our students, empathy is not explicitly included in current research in the field of home economics. However, the new BC curriculum includes empathy across the curriculum, including explicitly in curriculum competencies in home economics. From the new curriculum and a complex world comes the question of what is empathy, why should we teach it, and what are the best practices for including it in our home economics classrooms?
