Inspiriting human ecology/home economics and everyday life : telling my story MacIsaac, Karen Lynn

Abstract

This paper is an examination of the concept of inspiriting and what it means for home economics curriculum and pedagogy. It uses interpretive methodology which encompasses selfstudy narrative inquiry and storytelling to show how personal experiences can be awakened and make us conscious of our lived experiences in education. They allow us to question common practices. I identify three concepts related to inspiriting, wide awakeness, consciousness and mindfulness and apply these to three stories to consider inspiriting home economics, curriculum and pedagogy. Finally I elaborate the transformation both personally and professionally that takes place when attending to the spirit in home economics education.
