Implementing personalized learning in home economics education McElgunn, Nikita

Abstract

Personalized learning (PL) is currently being advocated by the Ministry of Education in British Columbia as a key concept for the implementation of the new curriculum revisions in all subjects, including Home Economics/Human Ecology (HE). PL is a teaching methodology in which the educator tailors lessons in order to engage each student individually with the material. As engaged students are far more likely to achieve their academic, social, and emotional learning outcomes, PL provides an excellent manner in which to facilitate student engagement. Students in HE can benefit from PL, but there is a lack of research and formal methods to personalize the HE curriculum. This graduating project offers a practical resource book for Home Economics/Human Ecology (HE) teachers, outlining how to personalize learning in their classrooms in order to meet various student needs.
