Exploring the work of the Canadian District Home Economist Loessin, Audra
Abstract
This study adds to the paucity of information about the work of the District Home Economist (DHE). There is a weaving of story lines – my own, my mother’s and that of the DHEs who participated, highlighting how women’s ‘knowledge’ has not only contributed to the well-being of their family but also their community. This knowledge has enabled family farms and businesses to grow and thrive. Women were able to learn together in supportive contexts and develop leadership capacities.
