Exploring the webs of life in classroom teaching : ecology as a unifying theme in home economics Barclay, Erin

Abstract

This paper is a narrative self-study that follows my journey from a no-choice oriented teacher, to a reflective practitioner, as I attempt to view home economics education through an ecological lens. I begin with an exploration of my personal values and beliefs with regard to food and the environment, and follow my educational journey as I attempt to bridge the divide between the version of myself represented in my professional practice, and the individual represented in my personal life. I search for suggestions for best practice in ecological and environmental education, implement them into my classroom, and then explore through writing to learn the meaning these experiences and lesson have brought to my classroom practice.
