Cosmic Mirrors : Extraterrestrial Architectural Entities Kolosova, Kristina
Abstract
Space is a mirror. Throughout history, space has provided a blank canvas for imagination of utopias. Utopia is an unachievable tangent that drives our progress. It provides us with hope and feeds our creativity. Connection to space reflects our societies and provides meaning which later is encapsulated in architecture. This thesis explores the hypothesis of future celestial habitats and how architecture may reshape given the utopic ideologies of today. Societal fundamental values are defined by the context of shared beliefs, governments, and technologies. Based on our values today, this thesis uses cosmic space as a prompt for an interpolation of the architectural future where architecture becomes an entity on its own. The project takes place on the dwarf planet Ceres in the year 2122.

Space is a mirror. Throughout history, space has provided a blank canvas
for imagination of utopias. Utopia is an unachievable tangent that drives
our progress. It provides us with hope and feeds our creativity. Connection
to space reflects our societies and provides meaning which later is
encapsulated in architecture. This thesis explores the hypothesis of future
celestial habitats and how architecture may reshape given the utopic
ideologies of today.
Societal fundamental values are defined by the context of shared beliefs,
governments, and technologies. Based on our values today, this thesis uses
cosmic space as a prompt for an interpolation of the architectural future
where architecture becomes an entity on its own.
The project takes place on the dwarf planet Ceres in the year 2122.
