Safe Kids Week 2002 "Kids On Wheels" Program Evaluation Brussoni, Mariana; Hofmeister, Joey; Turcotte, Kate

Abstract

Safe Kids Canada is the national injury prevention program of Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children. The mission of Safe Kids Canada is to prevent injuries by educating the public about injury prevention, and by working to create safer environments. Safe Kids Canada promotes injury prevention through a range of resources, services and initiatives including Safe Kids Week, an annual national safety campaign. The 2002 Safe Kids Week campaign, "Got Wheels? Get a Helmet!" focused on preventing injuries among kids on wheels (bicycles, skateboards, scooters, and in-line skates). The objective was to raise awareness among Canadian parents and change their behavior in relation to safety practices, particularly the use of helmets. This report is an evaluation of this event.
