Predicting failure in first-term calculus courses Garaschuk, Kseniya
Abstract
In this paper, we describe the set up and administration of a precalculus diagnostic test and an attitudinal survey to first-term calculus students. We then illustrate how these tools can be used to identify groups of students at high risk of failing their respective calculus course. The tools and analysis described here can be easily adapted and implemented at any post-secondary institution. Instructors and academic advisors can use this information to better support the students by providing them with appropriate options and resources.
