Technical Types of Waters in Vedic Ritual Gadgil, Mugdha
Abstract
Usage of water in Vedic sacrifices is noteworthy. There are numerous synonyms for water in general. However, divine waters or āpaḥ are classified and used with a particular objective in Śrauta rites. Present paper discusses such seven types and attempts to find out the reason behind this artificial classification with the help of their ritualistic usage and mythology associated thereby.
