Flux attachmentÃ¢ to form composite particles gives rise to an emergent geometry
in the fractional quantum Hall effect. I will describe how the composite boson and
composite fermion pictures complement each other as respective analogs of the
unit cell and mobile charge carriers in crystalline electronic matter.
