Owing to a rush of job-work which kept the whole office staff busy our man on the wing failed to keep h's appointment to visit the new h 'tne and our renders were denied a pleasure which we trust- they will now enjoy. \"When the Company first opened up for business some live years u- go tlie plant vas'lioused inabuild ing alongside No. 6 mine and tlio plant wa,s run by steam from a pipe connocted with the mine engines. M On Wednesday morning last the citizens wore moused by tho ringing of the fire bell at about 2 a. m. Tliere was a scramble mid a rush to the scene of the tiro���������the stable used by the Comox Co operative Association and Mr. P. Monte. The fire fiend had an exelleut start. Thore was a delay in having the water turned on acccout of not being able to find the nozzles. Once ths water wa9 streaming on the flames from tho two nozzles ���������the fire was under control in a fow minutos, but much of the hay had to be thrown out before the firemen deemed it wise to retire. The alarm was first sounded by some young folks who were enjoying themselves at the homo of Mr'. Charles McDonald. Tho losers are Mr. P. Monte, owner of a vory valuable horse; the Comox Co-operative Association of a horso; Mr. W, Harrison owner of tlw premises. Suspicion that the fire was not -merely-ac3idental-but_the-W-ork~oi the fire fiend led to an investigation .boing .held on Thursday evening before tho police commissioners, Mr. P.. Phillips Harrison conducted the inquiry. After con: sideriug all the evidence brought iu the commissioners came to the conclusion that \"Upon considering all the evidence-adduced in the premises,wo the undersigned police commissioners of the Oity of Cumberland havo mutually como to the conclusion that the said nozzles concealed as aforesaid,'wore wil* fully so concealed und that tho aforesaid w.b wilfully ignited or started, by some person or persons to us unknown,'' hat charge of the plant during tin* still hours of the night.
