The Judge admitted this, and after considerable discussion it was agreed to postpone the case in order to allow summons to be served fyn the fourth company not included in the defence. The Quickest WayThe New York Herald comments upon the dispatch from Earl Granville to the dominion Government announcing the acceptance by the Hudson's Bay Company of the terms proposed for the trans* fer of the Northwest Territory to the Domin- ion Government. The Herald condescends to speak in a congratulatory tone. By completing the scheme of Confederation, it argues, the annexation of British North America to the United States will be hastened. We agree with the Herald that the quickest way to annexation may be through Confederation, because the British Government will not consent to any portion of their American dependencies being separately handed over to the United States ; but they might consent to the whole of. them being annexed if tbe people of the dominion should desire it. At present, however, there is no evidence of any such desire, and it is highly, improbable that there ever will be. Dominion Dat.We notice that a disposition to celebrate this Say is growing throughout the colony ; and even in Victoria, communications to the papers there point to a forthcoming celebration. At the present time, when it is manifest that we shall soon become a part of the Dominion, it ia more than ever desirable to show that we are not indifferent to the importance of the change, tho First of July should receive as much consideration as any other lay day in the year.- It will be no disparagement to the Twenty-fourth of May ; for has not the Queen herself said that she hoped soon to see British North America united Irom the Atlantic to the Pacific? Let the wishes of the Queen be loyally responded to, with a view to hasten their fulfilment.
