Sherman,, the \"fish king\" and manager of the Defiance Packing Company, intends to do' after he gets possession of the Heatley avenue wharf from the city is to build a.large extension to the preseut wharf. Mr. Sherman recently completed a deal with the city for the leasing of the Heatley avenue wharf but does not get possession until NoVember S. He announced to the j Record yesterday that he intended to I extend the wharf another 100 feet, con- j structing the addition at his own ex- i pense. He is doing this niainlv to ; get deeper watei; at tho end of the I wharf for large vessels to berth there j and also to get increased berthing '. room \"and greater storage room on the I wharf in new storage, sheds which lie i i plans to erect. j The extension and ether improve-' ; ments which Mr. Sherman plans to : make to the Heatley avenue water-j i front will involve an expenditure of( about ? 15.000. .lust, what size the new j sheds on the wharf will be is to be j decided after Mr. Sherman consults witft his architect. Mr. Sherman wants | to have one lish storage warehouse there that will hold 40.000 cases of salmon at least, as that, amount might he handled in a couple of vessel loadd from the ' company's up-coast canneries for storage prior to shipment cast. A deal is also pending between Mr. Sherman and Mr. Patterson of the Patterson Boiler Works, whereby the lattern concern will lease 40 feet of the 99-foot street end waterfront for the construction thereon of a marine ways to take boats up to 1T>0 feet in ^? - JS-.\"'N.OW_ BEING,,BUILT . Good progress is being made on the task of preparing the foundation for the. superstructure of the new 'factory- that is being erected at Buntzen, on the east side of the North Arm of Burrard Inlet for the extraction of nitrogen from the air. This new factory, which when completed and equipped will represent an investment of about $125,000, is located not far from the generation station of the Vancouver Power Company and its erection there is largely due to the fact that in the extraction of nitrogen from the air a large consumption of electric current at a high voltage is required. This will be readily available there as well as other material to combine with the nitrogen for the manufacture of commercial fertilizer for which there will he no lack of a^ ready market in Vancouver and throughout the province. Besides the manufacture of fertilizer carrying high nitrogen values, the company operating the new factory will also go in for the manufacture of other chemicals and by-products. It is expected that several important contracts will be called for by the company in the near future, as it is planned to have the concern in operation early in the n;\\v year. \"TMOR\" Roller Bearing Drills - Close Qnarter Piston Air Drills - Wetting Hammers Chipping Hammers-Wood Borers-Turbine and Electric Drills High Speed Steel-Drills-Reamers, Etc. Many-of them are old houses, it is true, built ten and fifteen yeilrs ago when modern sanitary equipment was not given the same attention that it is today. But in view of the keen demand-for houses'!*of all kinds which 'undoubtedly exists, it is, a matter of surprise to Inspector Hyries—and his. opinion: was also reechoed by the aldermen—that at least 75 per cent, of these unoccupied houses were not put in shape of \"habitation. The largest nuiti-l per of these are in Wards IV, V and. VI. There are at least 46 -of these' for the owners to spend something for repairs to these vacant houses and get them into the revenue producing class. Some of these houses are owned by non-residents who have left them in the hands of agents here. It would seem to be the clear duty of any live agent with the 'owner's interest at heart, to strongly recommend that these residences be repaired- A little concerted action along this line would not only: help'to materially re- lllieve the impending house'famine but The new Pacific-Japanese shipping merger is evidently; figuring1 on doing a big business locally, as might be inferred from the fact that the concern has leased new offices in the Standard J Bank building. has taken pretty nearly the whole twelfth floor of this centrally located building.
